Marking significant milestones, the liver transplant program of Burjeel Medical City (BMC), Abu Dhabi, has successfully completed eight unique and challenging liver transplants. The program brings extensive experience to the forefront, broadening the scope of care to encompass both adult and pediatric liver diseases, including both deceased and living donor liver transplantation.

It holds the record for performing the BMC’s first deceased donor liver transplant and the UAE’s first pediatric liver transplant. In a rare feat achieved by only a few centers, the medical team also performed a transplant with no blood product transfusion. Recently, the transplant team performed a ‘super-urgent’ liver transplant within 48 hours by bringing the liver from a brain-dead donor in Kuwait through a GCC-wide coordinated effort.
