Burjeel Holdings and UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Launch Mangrove Plantation Drive for World Environment Day

Dubai, June 3, 2024: Underscoring its commitment to ESG principles, Burjeel Holdings, in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, initiated a mangrove plantation drive at the Jebel Ali Mangrove Reserve on the occasion of World Environment Day.

The initiative was launched by Major Ali Al Suweidi, President of the Emirates Marine Environmental Group, who founded the reserve under the patronage of Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid in 1996. A team of healthcare workers, led by Mr. Bruno Dsouza, Regional Chief Operating Officer for Dubai and the Northern Emirates at Burjeel Holdings, participated in the event. The planting was facilitated by EcoMatcher.

Mangroves, vital for their environmental and economic benefits, play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by absorbing significant amounts of greenhouse gases. These coastal ecosystems can sequester up to four times more carbon than the Amazon rainforest, highlighting their importance in combating global warming. The team spent over three hours to plant mangroves in the reserve.

“Our dedication to sustainability and environmental stewardship is central to our mission. Such initiatives highlight our commitment to contributing to a positive impact on the planet,” said Mr. Bruno Dsouza.

The healthcare workers who participated in the event also shared their excitement about being part of the mission.

“Participating in the mangrove plantation drive has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. It’s wonderful to be part of an initiative that positively impacts our environment,” said Ali Alfalasi, Manager, Government Relations, Dubai and the Northern Emirates at Burjeel Holdings.

“Being involved in this mission underscores our commitment to sustainability. Planting mangroves helps the environment and unites our team with a shared purpose,” Lujain Khalil Almashni, Clinical Dietitian, Burjeel Specialty Hospital, Sharjah.
